What is Reverse Osmosis?
In the case of water filtration systems, reverse osmosis is the separation process that occurs when pressure is used to force unfiltered water through a semi-permeable membrane. The membrane prevents unwanted particles and contaminants from passing through and separates them from the water. The result is pure, contaminant-free drinking and cooking water.

How Reverse Osmosis Systems Work

Here’s how it works:
- Your unfiltered water enters the RainSoft system through an inlet valve.
- Water is drawn through the pre-filter cartridge; microscopic particles are removed and the water is polished.
- Water is then drawn into the reverse osmosis cartridge where it is filtered through a spiral-wound, semi-permeable membrane.
- The final product is drawn into a storage tank where it is stored for use.
When the faucet is turned on, water is drawn from the storage tank and through a carbon block post-filter for final polishing. You are left with pure, delicious, RainSoft water for drinking or cooking.
